Kon-Tiki Krabi Inspection tour to Komodo!

31 augusti 2010

Recently Kon-Tiki Krabi’s general manager Malene Jensen had to opportunity to travel with MV Mermaid II on their trip to Komodo Islands in Indonesia. Mermaid Liveaboard is one of our most popular Thailand liveaboards to Similans between November and May. She is a 32 meter long, double engine steel motor yacht and by far one of the most comfortable dive boats in Thailand. She accommodates 16 guests in 8 deluxe cabins and 2 guests in a budget cabin below deck. In the cabins you find even the small things like in a regular hotel room like mouth wash, shampoo, cotton buds. They have thought about everything here!
Lovely roomy cabins, restaurant with mouth watering foods from the Thai chef and the fridge is always filled with cold drinks, help yourself!
Around the boat you find everything you need. The saloon is large and spacious with lounge suites, bar fridge, tea and coffee facilities, TV/DVD, music center, library and a full selection of marine life books. The covered party deck has comfortable lounge chairs and the sundeck, located in front of the wheelhouse has full sun and cushioned sun platform. Perfect for a afternoon massage with the on board masseuse.
On the dive deck the staff is working hard every hour to ensure you have everything you need and in place. You have Nitrox available on every cruise and face it, when you do so many dives; you don’t want miss out on anything. There is a wide stern dive platform with two exit ladders and fresh water showers. The dive deck is huge with plenty of room to gear up, individual boxes for your dive gear, camera table and loads of rinse tanks. Once the briefing is over, everything is laid out for you and you just need to get into the zodiac. All dive sites is then within 4 min. and underneath an abundances of marine life is waiting you! Once back on the boat a warm towel awaits you and hot chocolate after night diving!!!
During my many dives I was so lucky to be with experienced divers and a passionate dive master called John. He managed to keep a good eye out for the big fish in the blue, but also surprised me many times with the tiniest little pipefish.
So I guess I was quite spoiled with the Mola mola, black Manta ray, turtles and White tip reef sharks!
On one dive we were all looking after small critters and suddenly my buddy gets my attention and over us flew a couple of Mobulas. We were very excited and happy when they kept coming back to check us out again and again.
When we had the chance to do night dives, our torches lit up so many different things which were hidden in the sand. We spotted Star gazer, Octopuses and many different kinds of Nudibranch. Had it not been for the temperature which was down to 24 degrees, we would probably have stayed down longer!
One highlight of the tour was of course a visit to Komodo Island. Here we followed an experienced guide, who had his eyes on the Komodo Dragons. We sneaked through the trees, where we saw birds, deer’s, wild pigs and of course the world famous Komodo Dragon.
I can now highly recommend Kon-Tiki’s guests to join this Liveaboard. This coming seasons schedule is already planned, so please have a look at our Liveaboard trips available on this link

I like to thank all the efficient Thai staff on the boat for making the diving so easy. Also big thanks to the dive staff:  Cassandra, Whan, Ramon, Pepe and John. You guys managed to find the smallest little things, however when the big Mola Mola swung by, John ensured the whole boat got a great sight of it – Thank you John!
I look forward to see you all again!

We would like to thank Kon Tiki Krabi for a great time during our courses at Ao Nang and Phi Phi ! Malene was instructing my wife on a Open Water Referral, and did a fantastic job instructing and reassuring her in the water. Jerome was instucting me on the Rescue Diver course. I was tired out, but learnt a great deal. Very professional crew with great dive boats....with emergency oxygen on board too.... Hope to dive again with you someday.... warm regards, Kelvin & Vanessa from China
